When he was 21 years old, he moved to Illinois and spent more than a year laboring on farm. It’s said that he and his fellow-laborer split in the 3,000 rails in that year 1830. He also managed a flat-boat on the Ohio River. Every time he was a got a new and try to work on a full effort and skill which would help him when he became a lawyer. When he was shopkeeper he tried to be honest and so fair. His shortchanged * a woman by 6 cents, and he followed her home so he could give the money back to her. When he was postmaster, he would tried to learn about how to get along with people well.

But, He would like to still want to be a lawyer. And he was go without sleep in order to study in become a lawer. He would borrow books from neighbor in study with evening times, read them by the light of the fireplaces, he was take them back in to the morning. In 1836 he was passed the test and became a lawyer.And he was so happy. In this during time he was elected to the Illinois legislature by the Whig party. He will become good at debating and public speaking also. He had many debates with John Calhoun regarding with the tariff questions. They will spoke a before large audiences, sometimes he was so long as four hours later.
